We are thrilled to share the exciting news of the successful commissioning ceremony for the handover of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities to Angels Care School in Itambabiniga Umura and Kakoni Grace Day and Boarding School. This monumental event took place on Tuesday, 20th February 2024, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards ensuring access to clean water and sanitation facilities in our schools.
The day commenced with a training session at 10:00 am, where 88 learners from Kakoni Grace and Boarding School were equipped with the skills to make reusable sanitary pads. It was heartening to see 80% of the participants being girls, emphasizing the importance of addressing menstrual hygiene needs within our community.
In the afternoon, at 2:00 pm, the commissioning activities began with a brief introduction led by LHI at the OPM Community Services Office. The ceremony was graced by esteemed leaders including Mr. Benson from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Mr. Julius M. from the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Mr. Okello from Nsamizi Training Institute for Social Development (NSAMIZI), Mr. Safari Thomas representing Refugee Welfare Council-RWC III, and Mr. Eliya M. from KRLON-Kyaka II Refugee-led Organizations Network (KRLON), along with their respective organizations.
The commissioning involved visits to the completed facilities, starting from Angels Care School in Itambabiniga Umura, where a 5-stanced latrine was unveiled. This was followed by a visit to Kakoni Grace Day and Boarding School, where a 5-stanced latrine and a 10,000-liter water tank were showcased, significantly improving sanitation and water accessibility for the students.
The presence of our distinguished guests underscored the significance of this initiative and highlighted our collective commitment to promoting education, health, and community development. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the organizations represented for their unwavering support throughout this endeavor.
We express our sincere appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of this project, including the local community members, volunteers, and partner organizations. Together, we have made a tangible difference in the lives of our students and the broader community.
As we celebrate this achievement, we look forward to continued collaboration and collective efforts to drive positive change in our communities.
