What if the student knows more about technology than the ICT teacher?
Imagine a learner helping their teacher open a computer program, create a document, or navigate an online platform.
In today’s education system, digital skills are no longer an optional advantage. Teachers need the confidence and practical skills to guide learners in an increasingly digital world.
It is against this background that Let’s Help International (LHI) has launched the Digital Empowerment for Teachers (DET) project in Kyaka II Refugee Settlement.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with Finn Church Aid (FCA) and the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).
Empowering teachers with practical digital skills
The DET project responds to a digital skills gap identified among teachers in refugee and host-community schools in Kyaka II. Limited computer skills can affect teachers’ confidence in teaching ICT, preparing digital learning materials, managing school reporting and using technology in their daily work.
Through the project, 30 teachers from different schools will receive practical training through a combination of physical sessions and digital learning.
The first training session, held on 8 August 2026, has already demonstrated the value of this approach.
Teachers began gaining confidence and were able to apply practical skills they can immediately take back to their schools, including designing and printing schemes of work and other teaching materials.
This is not simply about teaching teachers how to use computers. It is about giving teachers the confidence to teach, report, communicate and lead in a digital learning environment.
From one teacher to thousands of learners
The impact of the project goes beyond the 30 teachers participating directly in the training.
Each teacher works with many learners. By strengthening teachers’ digital competencies, LHI expects the knowledge and skills gained through DET to reach thousands of learners across Kyaka II through their classrooms and schools.
When we strengthen one teacher’s digital skills, we strengthen the learning opportunities of every learner that teacher serves.
Building on previous digital empowerment work
The DET project builds on LHI’s previous initiatives to increase access to digital learning and skills development.

The launch marks the beginning of a journey to support teachers to become more confident users of technology and stronger digital educators.
